New York City Mayor Eric Adams has been indicted on five federal charges, as revealed in a 57-page indictment unsealed on Thursday.

The 64 year old mayor faces one count of wire fraud, one count of conspiracy, two counts of soliciting contributions from foreign nationals, and one count of bribery.

Prosecutors allege that Adams accepted over $100,000 in luxury international travel from a wealthy businessman and at least one Turkish government official for almost ten years in exchange for official favors.

This makes Adams the first sitting New York City mayor to face such charges.

In a statement on Thursday morning, Adams expressed that he was not surprised by the indictment and urged the public to “wait to hear our defense before making any judgments.” He emphasized that he would continue with his normal responsibilities despite the legal situation.

“I look forward to defending myself and the people of this city, just as I have throughout my entire professional career,” Adams stated.
