New Law Would Require Drunk Drivers To Pay Child Support If Parent Is Killed

After three family members of Cecilia Williams were killed in April, she started to go after drunk drivers.

Cordell Williams, her son, Lacey Newton, his fiancée, and their 4 month-old son, Cordell Williams II died after their vehicle was rear-ended, went off the street, and crashed.

David Thurby was charged with three counts of DWI death of another. He stated to officials that he had consumed seven shots of crown and water.

Now, Williams is taking care of the couple’s two other kids, 3 year-old Mason and 5 year-old Bentley. Her desire is for “Bentley’s Law” to pass in order to make drunk drivers pay child support to relatives raising victim’s kids when they have caused the parent’s death.

Williams says that making drunk drivers pay the support will make offenders rethink their decision to drive drunk.

“Bentley’s Law” will be introduced during the next state legislation session in Missouri. Williams hopes to continue the battle against drunk driving throughout the nation.
