A 17-year-old student from Frisco has been accused of fatally stabbing another student during a track meet on Wednesday morning.

Karmelo Anthony allegedly confessed to the act, claiming it was self-defense, according to an arrest affidavit. One witness told police that the victim, Austin Metcalf, had asked Anthony, to move from under his team’s tent.

The affidavit reveals that while Anthony is a student at Centennial High School, he was sitting under the tent belonging to Memorial High School at the time. The witness reported that after this exchange, Anthony opened his bag and reached inside. He allegedly warned Metcalf, “Touch me and see what happens.” In response, Metcalf touched Anthony, prompting Anthony to challenge him to hit him to find out what would happen.

Shortly after this, the witness observed Metcalf grab Anthony, urging him to move. At that moment, the affidavit states, Anthony pulled out what the witness described as a black knife and stabbed Metcalf once in the chest before fleeing the scene. The witness noted that Metcalf then clutched his chest and called for help.

Another witness corroborated the same account, stating that the incident took place inside Memorial High School’s tent.

The arresting officer noted that when he approached Anthony, he reportedly stated, “I was protecting myself,” even before being questioned about the incident.

As the officer escorted Anthony off the track, the suspect claimed that Metcalf had “put his hands on him.”

Subsequently, Anthony was handcuffed, according to the affidavit. When another officer arrived, the arresting officer communicated that he had the “alleged” suspect in custody, to which Anthony reportedly replied, “I’m not alleged, I did it.”

While seated in the back of the patrol vehicle Anthony inquired about Metcalf’s condition during the ride.

The affidavit also mentions that officers later found the knife allegedly used to stab Metcalf in the bleachers at the track, where Anthony reportedly discarded it after the attack.

Anthony is charged with murder and is in the Collin County Jail on a $1 million bond.
