On Thursday, a cargo ship, transporting nearly 4,000 cars, caught on fire in the Atlantic Ocean after leaving Germany. It was headed to Rhode Island. The burning ship drifted away after all 22 crew members were taken off of the ship, authorities say.

The Felicity Ace, 650-feet-long, was transporting over 18,700 tons of cargo, close to Portugal’s Azores Islands.

In a released statement, Volkswagen Group noted that vehicles made by them, including Porsche models, were being carried by Felicity Ace. They didn’t state what impact may be caused by the fire. However, individuals who are expecting a vehicle arrival will be notified if they will be affected.

Japan’s Mitsui O.S.K. Lines was the operator of the ship. The didn’t disclose any details related to the cargo.

Through a vehicle transporter, a Portuguese navy ship was observed checking out the condition of the ship. The fire was still going and huge clouds of white smoke could still be seen in pictures.

The crew was rescued by the Portuguese navy and flown to another island. They are residing in a hotel, and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
