On Saturday, NBA player Iman Shumpert was apprehended for having a “sizeable” amount of marijuana in his backpack at Dallas-Fort Worth Airport.
Police documents show that officers answered to a possible drug violation incident, close to 2:40 p.m. This came after TSA screeners discovered a plastic bag with a “green leafy substance” in Shumpert’s belongings. The player later confessed that it was marijuana.
Authorities say the substance was about 6.12 ounces and tested positive for marijuana on a mobile test.
Shumpert, 32, was about to board a Delta airplane to travel to Los Angeles. He showed concern, explaining that he would miss his daughter’s birthday because he was being apprehended, police say.
Shumpert is facing a state felony which could lead to two years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Although he didn’t have a weapon, police say that they did discover a Glock magazine and 14 9mm rounds in his backpack, as well.
