Murder Warrants Issued In Kaufman County After Three Inmates Overdose On Fentanyl, One Of Them Dies
On March 6, 2024, deputies with the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office served two murder warrants. This was in relation to an occurrence involving three inmates who overdosed on fentanyl. Two of the inmates were transported to a medical facility, and one of them died.
The sheriff’s office and the Texas Rangers swiftly began a full investigation into what exactly happened.
Now, two inmates that are currently incarcerated have been charged with murder in relation to the overdose. 27-year-old Joshua Guynn Thomas and 33-year-old Thomas Stewart Jr., both have bonds that are $500,000 each.
They are facing charges of murder and knowingly manufacturing or delivering a controlled substance. The latter charge is under the Penalty Group 1-B under section 481.1022… , in violation of the Health and Safety Code that says, “and an individual dies as a result of injecting, ingesting, inhaling, or introducing it into an individual’s body any amount of the controlled substance…”
The sheriff’s office has noted that they will continue to keep their word to make sure that justice is served.
