On Tuesday, seven elementary school children became sick after eating gummy bears that were placed in a sandwich bag. It later tested positive for fentanyl.
Five students were transported to a medical facility but have now recovered. Additionally, two people have been taken into custody in relation to the incident.
Reports indicate that one of the fourth graders brought the gummies to school from home to share with others at Central Elementary School. After students became sick, they were sent to the nurse’s office. This is after they showed symptoms like, nausea, vomiting, headaches, and muscle spasms. The sheriff’s office has stated that they don’t believe the incident was done purposely.
Also, it was noted that the sandwich bag tested positive for fentanyl not the gummies.
Clifford Dugan Jr. and Nicole Sanders are both facing charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Sanders was hit with an additional charge of possession of a controlled substance. Then, Dugan faces an additional charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
As of now, the school has been cleaned and a threat of hazardous situation is no longer.
An investigation is continuing.
