Mother Recognizes Train Robbery Suspect As Her Son And Turns Him In

18-year-old Zion Brown is a sophomore in college from Chicago. He is accused of stealing $100 from a Metra train conductor, at gunpoint, on February 15.

Now, Brown has been taken into custody after police had been searching for him. Brown’s mother recognized pictures of him with his mask on as he was looking into a train station security camera. The photos had been provided by police and shown by the media. His mother then dragged him to the police station so that he could turn himself in.

At a bond hearing, Brown’s lawyer stated that he was starving and was looking for food as a defense for the man’s actions. When deciding bail, he asked the judge to remember her days as a hungry college kid, noting that Brown had gone to class after the crime.

The judge didn’t feel any empathy for Brown, and his bail was denied. Judge Maryam Ahmad stated that as a hungry college student herself, she would have never committed a robbery.

While being questioned by police, Brown told them that the weapon he had was actually a BB gun. He said he chunked it in an alley after the incident.
