The mother of Carnell Tate, an Ohio State freshman receiver, was fatally shot, on Sunday.
Close to 2 a.m., in the Garfield community of Chicago, a woman was shot several times in what is said to be a drive-by shooting.
The woman, Ashley Griggs, was transported to a medical facility where she died from her wounds.
Four other people were wounded in the incident, as well. One of the victims disclosed to authorities that the assailant had been traveling in a car when the shooting happened.
Tate, who is from Chicago, relocated to Florida to attend IMG Academy. There, he averaged 20.3 yards when he was a senior in 2022.
In December, Tate committed to OSU and is thought to be one of the greatest incoming freshman receivers.
Ashley Griggs was 40 years old.
