On August 6, five children died on their mother’s birthday in an apartment fire in East St. Louis, Illinois.
The mother says that she believes an electrical issue started the blaze.
“They didn’t deserve it,” stated Sabrina Dunigan. The mother said that she misses her children “especially their voices and their faces.”
Dunigan noted that a previous residence of hers burned down, and she thought an ex-boyfriend had done it although he never faced charges. However, she doesn’t believe any person caused the incident this time.
She said that her father was residing only a few feet from where they lived. She added that when came home and observed smoke, she ran in the apartment to attempt to rescue her children.
Family services said that they have gotten complaints about neglect at the residence prior to the fire.
Many agencies are continuing to investigate. The children’s ages ranged from 2 to 9.
