A mother is said to have killed her three children and then herself, according to the Danbury, Connecticut, police department.
Those who have died are Sonia Loja, 36; Junior Panjon, 12, Jocelyn Panjon, 10; and Jonael Panjon, 5.
Authorities had been called to a home after a man, who was distressed and crying, contacted them, on Wednesday evening. Police believe that the woman strangled her children prior to taken her own life by “asphyxia by hanging.” She was found in a backyard shed.
An autopsy took place on Thursday.
Officials say the family had resided in the residence with two other adults. The adults were not home when police arrived to the location. However, they and other relatives have been notified of the occurrence.
The mayor’s office and other local government entities have offered support to the family and friends of the deceased and emergency crews who had gone to the scene.
An investigation is continuing.
