Mother Held On $1 Million Bond After Daughter’s Body Was Found In The Trash On Christmas Eve

38-year-old Sophia Simmons is said to have killed her daughter and threw her body in a large dumpster on Christmas Eve.

Simmons has been charged with first-degree murder, child abuse, and tampering with physical evidence.

Authorities in Phoenix, Arizona, were called to the location at about 8 p.m., on Dec. 24. A man, who had been searching for firewood, had discovered the body of a small girl between the ages of five and seven. She had been stuffed into a plastic storage tote.

The child had several wounds, some old, on her legs, arms, and torso.

The next day, a tipster from out of state had called police and told them that Simmons had contacted them. She had said that she had beaten her daughter, and “it went too far.”

She is also said to have told the tipster that after beating the child, she exited the home. However, when she returned, the girl was not breathing. She claimed that she administered CPR, but it wasn’t successful.

Documents note that Simmons stayed with the victim for five days after that prior to transporting the body to a dumpster and leaving it there.

When officers did a sweep of Simmons’ residence, it seemed as though she cleaned the townhouse. The home was mostly empty, the couches had been placed on the balcony, and the cushions were gone.

Simmons was eventually taken into custody and is being held on a $1 million bond.

She is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 2.
