Mother Dies Attempting To Save Children Who Fell In River

On Thursday, a mother died as she rescued one of her children and attempted to save another who had gone into the Massachusetts Merrimack River.

The family of six had been fishing when two of the four children fell into the river on Deer Island. The unnamed mother was able to save her 7-year-old daughter with the assistance of a fishing vessel. However, she couldn’t save herself.

“The mother went underwater and was not able to resurface. Rescuers located the mother and were able to bring her out of the water as she was unresponsive,” officials say.

The mother was transported to a medical facility where she was declared deceased.

Rescuers continue to search for the woman’s 6-year-old son in hopes of a recovery.
