Mother Charged For Instigating Fight

Latira Shonty Hunt, 44, faces up to 1 year of jail time after she allegedly encouraged her daughter to hit another teen at a basketball game in Garden Grove. Hunt’s daughter and another teen were involved in a foul on the court during the game. After witnessing the foul, Hunt yelled out, “You better hit her for that!” to her daughter.

Hunt’s daughter then approached the opposing player and slugged her in the head. Alice Ham, the mother of the 15-year-old girl who was struck, claimed her daughter suffered a concussion from the blow. The attack on the teen was recorded on a cell phone and went viral.

Hunt was charged with misdemeanor counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and battery.
