A 22 year old Pennsylvania woman was arrested last week after she allegedly beat and strangled her 3 year old daughter.

Officers responded to a call last Thursday on the 500 block of South 17th Street regarding a possible assault to a child.

According to the grandmother when she walked into the residence she heard the mother screaming ‘why can’t u be happy’. As she walked to the room she noticed, the child’s mother, Mary Hawkins over the child choking her.

When Hawkins saw the grandmother she immediately stopped choking the child and asked her boyfriends mother to just kill her.

During the interview Hawkins told officers that she punched the child multiple times during the attack as well.

She said she wanted the child to feel what it’s like to be choked.

The toddler was transported to Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. She suffered significant bruising on her face as well as a ruptured blood vessel in her left eye.

Doctors expect for her to make a full recovery.

Mary Hawkins was charged with three counts of aggravated assault, one count of attempted murder, one count of strangulation and one count of endangering welfare.
