Mother, Boyfriend Taken Into Custody 35 Years After 5-Year-Old Girl Discovered Enclosed In Concrete

After 35 years, a 5-year-old girl whose body was discovered surrounded by concrete and placed in the woods in Georgia has been identified.

Now, the child’s mother and a live-in boyfriend are facing murder charges.

DNA evidence and information received in January allowed authorities to determine that Kenyatta Odom was the young girl named as Baby Jane Doe all of these years.

Kenyatta was murdered in Albany, Georgia, prior to her body being found over 100 miles away in Norcross, Georgia. It had been located among old furniture and other debris that were in the woods on Dec. 21, 1988.

On Thursday, the child’s mother, 56-year-old Evelyn Odom, and her then-boyfriend, Ulyster Sanders were apprehended. They have been charged with felony murder, first-degree cruelty to children, concealing a death, and more.

The mystery of who the child was had gone on since 19888 when a man in the woods discovered the girl’s body inside of a cabinet in the woods. Authorities did find an Albany newspaper close to the child’s body that did give them some clues. However, throughout the years, they still couldn’t find out the information that they were looking for.

However, recently, authorities enlisted the assistance of the public again for information to help solve the case. On this occasion, they offered a $5,000 reward.

Then, in January, a woman contacted authorities. She stated that there was child that had disappeared and that her mother had said that the child had gone to live with her dad. However, that person hadn’t believed that story. That information led investigators in identifying Kenyatta.

No information is known on a motive or the child’s cause of death. However, sources report that the child’s feet a legs were submerged in hot water prior to her death.
