A Detroit mother is in custody after claiming a robber shot her 4 year old daughter.
The incident happened Friday afternoon around 3pm when officers responded to a robbery/ shooting call on the 6500 block of Brush Street.
Upon arrival the mother initially told authorities that someone tried to snatch her purse outside and apartment complex. Then they opened fire striking her baby in the leg and arm.
The toddler was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.
During an interview with police the mother confessed to accidentally shooting her daughter after police said there was conflicting stories between her and the hospital.
She said she was cleaning her gun when it went off and struck her daughter in the arm and leg.
She was taken into custody and no weapon has been recovered.
