In early March, a couple in Provo, Utah, was charged after their 15-year-old daughter disclosed to authorities that her stepfather had been sexually assaulting her for more than a year, police records show.
Officers answered to the girl’s residence, and she told first responders and authorities that her 34-year-old stepfather had raped her the previous night.
The girl’s stepfather is said to have confessed to the abuse. Later, he told detectives that he and his wife, the girl’s 38-year-old mother, had abused the girl together. They had both determined that it was ‘safer’ for the girl to have these sexual moments with them first, instead of others.
Officers then spoke with the mother. She told authorities that she and her husband had talked to the girl about having sexual experiences together. This had been more than a year ago. They believed that they could keep the girl safer if they permitted her to experiment sexually with them.
It has been confirmed that the girl’s mother worked at Slate Canyon Youth Detention Center in the city of Provo from 2007 to 2022.
The parents have four other children together. The stepfather disclosed to authorities that he is not the girl’s biological father. However, he had married her mother while she was pregnant.
The girl’s stepfather is facing charges of three counts of forcible sodomy and two counts of rape. He was also charged with two counts of forcible sexual abuse and one count of object rape. The girl’s mother has been charged with two counts of sodomy and one count of object rape. She faces additional charges of one count of forcible sexual abuse and one count of lewdness.
The girl’s mother and stepfather are still in custody at the Utah County Jail. They are set to appear in court again on March 19. Their names have not been publicly released in order to protect the identity of the teen girl.
