There is a delay in sanitation gathering because of a shortage of workers. For weeks, the city has been receiving backlash for the extended delays in picking up huge amounts of trash.
On Tuesday, the city notified the public that they will hold back on picking up residential recycling. The slow down could be by one or two days. This will affect different parts of the city for a couple of weeks.
Governor Abott terminated the extra $300 in weekly federal unemployment benefits Saturday. Many hope that this will have a positive effect on bringing workers back. The city is also increasing the pay to $15 an hour beginning in August.
If your recycling has not been picked up, the city wants you to know that they know about these issues. They stated that people should wait to call 311 until it has exceeded 48 hours.
