A mother in Denver, Colorado, is in shock after officers in Arapahoe County fatally shot her son.

On Thursday morning, the deputies were at the Ivy Crossing Apartment Homes. They then saw a car that was known to be stolen, and a man was inside of it.

Before this, authorities had received a call about a man who was sleeping in one of the building’s hallways.

Officers say that they requested backup, and then went up to the vehicle. They demanded that the male subject exit the car, but he refused.

The man is then said to have moved his car backwards towards deputies, in the small area. Gunshots then went off, and the man was struck.

The man’s family and friends then arrived to the scene visibly shaken up.

The department stated that the man never pointed a gun at officers neither did he shoot a gun. However, a gun was located on him as officers administered life-saving measures.

“They keep on with this killing our Black men, and now, they done killed my son. It ain’t right. He had his faults. We all do,” said the man’s mother, Jeanine McGhee.

The family added that a witness disclosed to them that things didn’t happen that way.

“Cops pulled up on him. He got scared. They shot two shots. They said, ‘hey, freeze’ and ‘bam bam.’ It was seconds after,” the witness reported.

An investigation into the incident is continuing.
