A Texas family is pursuing a wrongful death lawsuit after a man fatally collided with a mother at 120 mph, ejecting her from her vehicle.

On June 7th, Benjamin Meece, 37, was test driving a 2021 Dodge Challenger and crashed into 47-year-old Quma Martinez Carrillo, killing her. The posted speed limit was 45mph, while Meece was traveling at 120 mph.

At the time of the collision, a salesperson from an Odessa dealership was in the passenger seat.

The Odessa authorities report Meece did not render aid and ran from the scene on foot. After Meece was located, officials transported him to the hospital with minor injuries. Odessa police arrested Meece after his hospital examination.

Meece is being charged with failing to stop and render aid, manslaughter and aggravated assault.

The passenger, 34-year-old Kenneth Salas, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. First responders pronounced Carillo dead upon arrival.

Carrillo’s daughter drove past the scene of the crash right after the crash and saw her mother’s body on the street.

A Houston law firm, Zehl & Associates, filed a wrongful death lawsuit on July 15th for Carillo’s children. Meece, the salesperson, and the dealership are defendants in the lawsuit.

According to the law firm, the plaintiffs are hoping to recover economic and legal damages and mental anguish.
