A human head discovered on a Florida beach on Tuesday has been identified as that of Victor Castaneda Jr., a 19-year-old swimmer who went missing earlier this month.
On November 15, the Miami-Dade medical examiner’s office confirmed the identity of the remains, which were found after Castaneda disappeared on November 9 while attempting to rescue his sister from a rip current.
Reports indicate that Castaneda successfully saved his 17-year-old sister but was subsequently pulled away by another current.
Authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding his death but have stated that they do not suspect foul play.
