Authorities in Utah encountered a young man who they discovered was reported missing nearly three years ago from California.
On April 9, Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call from a concerned woman regarding a man sleeping outside of a gas station.
When Deputies arrived at the scene, they saw the young man, alone and sleeping outside in the cold. Deputies sat him inside one of their vehicles to warm him up as they began to collect his info. After attempting to converse with him, they noticed he was having a difficult time speaking and comprehending.
A dispatcher started looking through pages on the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s website and eventually came across a missing poster for a 17-year-old boy named Connerjack Oswalt.
Oswalt, now 19, was reported missing in September 2019 from Clearlake, California, more than 700 miles away from where he was.
Deputies made contact with Oswalt’s mother and were able to identify him through a birthmark on his neck.
Though officers have had previous interactions with Oswalt, they never demanded his information because he wasn’t violating the law.
Oswalt’s stepfather and grandfather went to Utah to identify him in person. Police showed them a photo of Oswalt and they confirmed it was him.
Oswalt’s mother and stepfather moved to Idaho after he went missing. Oswalt is still receiving care and resources and has not yet gone to Idaho.
