Missing 12-Year-Old Juan Sebastian Mejia Acevedo Recovered from Pond in Virginia Beach

The body of 12-year-old Juan Sebastian Mejia Acevedo was found in a pond in Virginia Beach, Virginia, on Monday, two days after an AMBER Alert was issued for the missing child.

At 2:55 p.m., Virginia State Police informed the media that the AMBER Alert had been cancelled. The body was discovered around 1 p.m. near the Cambria at Cornerstone apartments along South Independence Boulevard as police continued their search for the boy.

Although officials did not disclose further details regarding the circumstances surrounding Acevedo’s death, Chief Neudigate indicated that the ice formed during the recent cold weather “may have played a significant role. “Authorities mentioned that it is still too early to decide whether a homicide investigation will be launched or if Acevedo’s death will be deemed accidental.

His body has been sent to the medical examiner’s office to determine the actual cause of death.
