Mexico Files Complaint Against Gov. Greg Abbott’s Rio Grande Barrier

899views

Mexico has filed a diplomatic complaint shortly after Texas’ Governor Greg Abbott launches a barrier made of buoys in the Rio Grande.

Alicia Barcena, Mexico’s secretary of foreign affairs says her country is investigating the placement of the buoys. According to Barcena, the barrier, which is placed to prevent migrants from entering Texas, violates a US-Mexico treaty signed in 1944.

The water treaty was made to protect both countries and impeding the flow of water strictly violates the treaty.

In addition to the buoys, razor wire has also been set up along the Rio Grande River near Eagle Pass, Tx.

Businesses that thrive off the river, such as Epi’s Canoe & Kayak Team, are also strongly against the development of the water border. In fact, the owner of Eli’s Canoe & Kayak Team has sued Greg Abbott and the Texas Department of Public Safety for the suffering of his business.
