Mexican Gang Leader, Linked To El Chapo’s Sinaloa Cartel, Among 25 Prison Escapees Being Sought

1.4kviews

This week, the leader of a Mexican street gang connected to El Chapo’s Sinaloa drug cartel was one of the many inmates who got away as a violent jailbreak took place.

Ernesto “El Neto” Pinon and at least 24 others, including individuals from the Los Mexicles gang, broke out of Juarez’s Cereso #3 state prison in Ciudad Juarez on Sunday morning.

Men armed with guns in armored vehicles shot at prison guards, killing 10 of them and 7 inmates. They then entered the prison and freed 25 inmates from their cells.

The Mexican government stated that they found 20 “VIP cells,” cash, drugs, and cell phones inside the rooms of well-known inmates.

Pinon, who wears an eye patch, is thought to be a very important partner to the Caborca cartel which attempted to break him out of prison during a raid on Aug. 11.

In 2010, after a year of first being incarcerated, Pinon was shot in the head while trying to get away as he was transferred from one facility to another, reports indicate.

He is currently serving a 224-year sentence for his part in several abductions, and he has continued to order more abductions and commit other crimes from behind bars.

Almost 200 other people of the Mexicles gang have now been transferred to federal prisons while the government continues to search for fugitives.
