Meta Stops Russian State Media Advertisements

1.1kviews

Meta has prevented Russian state media from running ads and making money off of them on Facebook, stated the company’s leader of security policy, Nathaniel Gleicher, on Twitter.

This comes after the Russian military made its way into Ukraine on Thursday from various sections of the country. Many airstrikes and shelling have happened since.

One reason why Vladimir Putin has said that the invasion is occurring is because Ukraine is “committing genocide against ethnic Russians.” He stated that their government is a “Nazi regime.”

Meta has said that they have put the ban in place in order to keep people on their site safe.

“We are taking extensive steps to fight the spread of misinformation on our services in the region and continuing to consult with outside experts. We’re removing content that violates our policies, and working with third-party fact-checkers in the region to debunk false claims.”

Meta is also placing warning labels on material rated false and placing the content at the bottom of feeds so that fewer people will view it.
