57-year-old Chris Begley, a United Parcel Service (UPS) employee for nearly 30 years, collapsed while he was on his route last week. On Sunday, he died, leaving his family from McKinney, Texas, mourning his untimely death.
Since 1995, Begley had been driving for the company, and after being there for 28 years, he was in the process of thinking about retirement.
On Aug. 23, Begley had been taking a package to a company in Farmersville. On that day, the highest temperature had gotten up to 101 degree, the heat index values were close to 108 degrees, and a heat advisory was in effect. Begley collapsed while inside the business in Farmersville, and those who were employed there assisted him.
Reports indicate that a UPS supervisor picked Begley up in a personal vehicle, left the company truck at the other business, and transported Begley to his residence. The 57-year-old was later placed in the hospital where he died four days later.
A representative from UPS stated that Begley had contacted his supervisor on Aug. 23 to tell him what had occurred. The supervisor then went to the scene to ensure that Begley had water and was in cool conditions. The representative added that UPS offered medical assistance, but Begley declined more than once. Thus, he was transported home and taken out of service.
Oh God! Prayers for his family in the name of Jesus. Amen
