Four people were killed, and at least 18 others injured during a mass shooting in the nightlife district of Birmingham, Alabama, on Saturday night.
Two men and one woman were declared dead at the scene on Magnolia Avenue in the Five Points South area, close to the University of Alabama at Birmingham, while a fourth victim later died from their injuries at the university hospital.
Police arrived shortly after 11 p.m. following reports of gunfire.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue took eight victims to the hospital. Officials reported that the injuries among the victims ranged from non life threatening to critical.
Detectives believe the shooting was not random. According to police, it “resulted from an isolated incident in which multiple victims were caught in the crossfire.” They are currently investigating who the intended target may have been.
As of Sunday, no arrests had been made, and the investigation is still ongoing.
