An identified man has been taken into custody in relation to the death of ex-NHL player Adam Johnson.

Authorities in South Yorkshire, England, say that man was apprehended on Tuesday.

Johnson died tragically from the wounds he suffered when Matt Petgrave’s skate cut him in the neck as an Elite Ice Hockey League game took place.

When announcing the apprehension, police didn’t say whether Petgrave was the person that was arrested. However, they did say that they had been working with experts in the ice hockey and medical fields to help with their investigation.

Johnson had been playing for the Nottingham Panthers against the Sheffield Steelers in England when the incident happened.

Footage from the game showed Johnson crossing the blueline as Petgrave kicked up his skate which then cut Johnson across the throat. He bled profusely as he was transported to a medical facility where he died.

An examination showed that Johnson died from a fatal neck wound.

The Panthers, though, had first stated that the whole ordeal was a “freak accident.”

Johnson was 29.
