After a dispute over an Xbox controller, a man shot his mother. The incident occurred on Mother’s Day, authorities say.

Close to 8:30 p.m., on Sunday night, the Wayne County, Kentucky, sheriff’s office received a call about a person who had been shot. The victim was already on the way to the hospital.

Simultaneously, Sheriff Tim Catron had gotten a call that the assailant was waiting for authorities to come get him, at a neighbor’s residence.

When deputies arrived at the residence, Jacob Small, 22, stated that he had gotten into a verbal argument with his mom, Amber Powell. He said that the matter was in relation to an Xbox controller that he had given her for Mother’s Day.

As Powell was exiting the home after the fight, Small shot a .22 caliber rifle at her vehicle, hitting his mom. He surrendered the weapon to responding deputies, officials say.

Powell’s condition wasn’t released, but sources say that her wounds were non-life threatening.

Small is facing charges of attempted murder, assault, and criminal mischief. He was transported to the Wayne County Detention Center.
