Man Sentenced to Life in Prison after Murdering Girlfriend then Attacking his Parents with a Knife

A Massachusetts man has been sentenced to life in prison after murdering his girlfriend and attacking his parents with a knife.

Benjamin Walsh, 28, admitted to stabbing Olivia Bergstrom, 20, to death in their apartment on September 10, 2018.

After Walsh murdered his girlfriend, he went to a family gathering at a restaurant. While dining, he attacked his mother and father with a knife.

Relatives at the dinner restrained Walsh by tying him up until police arrived.

His sentencing comes after prosecutors agreed to reduce the first-degree murder charge to second-degree murder. Bergstrom’s parents were consulted regarding this matter and supported the decision. Walsh will still only be eligible for parole after he has served 25 years in prison.

Walsh’s parents were also consulted before the plea offer was approved.

Authorities have never discussed Walsh’s motives for the murder and the subsequent attack on his parents.
