Jacob Scott, a 45 year old military veteran, faked his death to escape the consequences of raping his 14 year old step-daughter.
Scott sexually assaulted the teen for a year until the teen became pregnant. Authorities captured Scott in 2018, but Scott posted bond. After Scott failed to appear in court, a search for him began.
The military veteran lived in Moss, Mississippi, but authorities found his boat near Orange Beach, Alabama. Inside the boat was a suicide letter and a gun. Forensic teams found little evidence showing a suicide was attempted.
Scott was added to the U.S. Marshals 15 Most Wanted Fugitive List in January 2020. Shortly after, Scott was arrested at an RV Park in Oklahoma.
On Thursday June 3, Scott was convicted of nine counts of sexual battery, four counts of touching a child for lustful intent, and one count of child exploitation.
Scott begged Judge Kathy Jackson to take his depressive state and relationship issues into consideration when sentencing.
Judge Jackson sentenced Scott to 85 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
