Lamonte McIntyre, 45, spent 23 years in prison for a double murder that he wasn’t responsible for. Now, McIntyre is looking for $93 million in damages from Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kansas.
McIntyre is also suing the ex-detective who he says framed him, Roger Golubski.
The case is set to go to trial on November 7, but the county would like the location switched to Wichita because of the publicity the matter has been given in the Kansas City area.
McIntyre’s mother is also looking to receive $30 million. The mother and son claim that Golubski convinced the mom to have sex with him. Then, in 1994, Golubski framed McIntyre for a double murder after his mother wouldn’t have sex with Golubski anymore.
Pretrial documents note that 73 women have accused Golubski of abusing many Black females for years while other officers were aware. Golubski says the allegations are false and doesn’t want that evidence to be heard in court.
In 2017, McIntyre was released from prison. A prosecutor had requested that McIntyre’s conviction be vacated and the charges be dropped. In 2020, he was issued a certificate of innocence and$1.5 million from the state.
As a result of his imprisonment, McIntyre says he has suffered PTSD and other emotional struggles.
For the last 17 years, his mother has experienced PTSD and has been receiving psychological treatments, the lawsuit notes.
If the allegations are valid, the county says that they aren’t responsible because the officer’s behavior wasn’t a part of his employment. It also states that the police chief wasn’t aware of the supposed misconduct.
