As he is journeying around the world, Tom Turcich, from New Jersey, has walked 25,000 miles and worn 45 different pairs of shoes.

In 2015, Turcich decided to spend the next years of his life taking an adventure throughout the world on foot. He began the excursion on April 2, the day prior to his 26th birthday.

Turcich has documented his travels on social media and YouTube. He can be seen freezing as he camped in South America, being escorted by authorities in Algeria, and getting on a research vessel to Antarctica.

“From all the solitude, from all the walking, I know myself very well. This has given me a much larger understanding of the world,” Turcich stated.

While traveling through Texas, he adopted a dog, Savannah. In August, they boarded a plane from Kyrgyzstan to Seattle, to complete the last phase of the adventure. This will have them set to return to New Jersey by the middle of May 2022.

In 2019, Turcich was able to see his family when they visited him in Croatia. His mom noted that she can see a change in her son.

“…he’s embraced this. He had grown into a man on this journey.”
