On Wednesday, a man from Florissant, Missouri, was sentenced to life in prison after killing his supervisor for being terminated from a child care center.
Christopher Owens, 54, was given his punishment after pleading guilty to second-degree murder and criminal armed action.
Authorities say that Brantley Tate, 60, was killed by Owens on January 6, 2021, at the Marygrove Child Center. Police discovered Tate in the parking lot with a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to a hospital where died.
Just a few days before the incident, Owens had been terminated after walking off the job.
Officials say that Tate was shot as Owens went back to the location to get his belongings.
“Brant was the kindest and most generous man I have ever known. He is loved so much. My heart mostly hurts that he died before he could teach our son everything a man is supposed to know,” said Tate’s widow.
In addition to his life sentence, Owens will serve 15 years, consecutively, for armed criminal action.
