A 30 year-old man in Brazil was fishing with his friends when he tried to escape a swarm of bees.

The man and friends jumped into a lake to get away. They then found that the water was filled with piranhas which are carnivorous fish with razor-sharp teeth. The two friends were able to swim away without incident.

After the fire department was called in to assist, the 30 year-old’s body was found a short distance away. His body was torn apart by the piranhas including his face. Although the man’s body was found in a similar manner of a person who had drowned, it is not clear if he died from drowning or the piranha attack.

There are about 30 species of piranhas that inhabit South America’s Amazon River basin. It is noted that piranhas don’t usually attack humans, but it can be deadly if they occur.
