Thomas W. Summerwill, 23, has been giving 4 years probation and 200 hours of community service for killing his mother.

On March 24, 2019, Thomas thought that someone was attempting to break in his bedroom.  He retrieved a baseball bat and struck the person several times in the head.  However, he didn’t know that person was his mother, 53 year-old Mary B. Summerwill. She succumbed to her injuries.

After an investigation, it was discovered that Thomas was under the influence of alcohol and THC consumption.

The state’s attorney said that it would do no good to put Thomas in prison.

It was also noted that Mary’s husband, son, and father saw the whole ordeal transpire. They also didn’t want to see Thomas prosecuted.

Another component of his sentence is that he must stop drinking until his probation is complete. Additionally, he must wear an alcohol monitoring device.

Grief counseling and a psychological evaluation were ordered, as well.
