On Friday, 41-year-old Justin Michael Milem, of Arlington, Texas, was given a 55-year prison sentence after he pled guilty to the 2021 murder of Michael Henley.
Records show that Milem started an altercation with Henley at a Chevron gas station on July 1, 2021.
When authorities arrived to the scene at about 6:30 p.m., in the 1700 block of West Sanford Street, they discovered Henley with a gunshot injury to his chest. He was transported to a medical facility where he was declared deceased.
Jose Noriega, Milem’s lawyer, stated through email that he honored the jury’s verdict but did not concur with it. He stated that he is looking at appeal options for the verdict.
Authorities say that camera footage from the gas station depicted Henley in a fight with Milem. They think Milem trailed behind Henley from the gas station. Bystanders told authorities that they saw a small gray SUV come alongside a man and fire a weapon prior to driving off.
Witnesses were also able to give authorities the vehicle’s license plate number which was linked to Milem.
When authorities arrived to Milem’s residence, he would not come out of the home, which prompted a standoff with SWAT.
Documents show that Milem surrendered after several hours of negotiations, and authorities discovered guns and ammunition within his residence. It was also shown that Milem’s two sons were inside the residence as the standoff took place.
