A man was exonerated and has graduated after being on death row for the murder of a Louisiana grocery store owner.
Ryan Matthews was accused of killing someone when he was 17 and spent 5 years behind bars for a crime he did not commit.
In 1997 a man with a ski mask shot and killed the 43 year old owner of Comeaux’s Market not far from Louisiana.
Authorities pulled over Matthews and another person and said they saw him fleeing the scene and hopping into a car before fleeing the scene and that he matched the description of the suspect.
After 5 years of rallying and trying to prove his innocence the suspect confessed to the murder and Matthews was exonerated and released.

Once released Matthews did an interview and retold reporters the only thing he wanted to do was go to school.
He did just that and graduated Saturday from Texas Women’s University in Denton with a bachelors degree in applied arts and science.
