A 49-year-old man, in Charles County, Maryland, has died from “snake envenomation” after living with over 100 snakes in his residence.
The Maryland Chief Medical Examiner’s Office has noted that his death was from a snake bite and was accidental. Neither the man’s name nor autopsy results have been released.
In January, neighbors called police to the home after they discovered the man deceased inside. It is unclear why the man had the snakes, some which were venomous and illegal. However, animal control stated that he had been caring for them very well. It was said that he kept the snakes safely secured in an environment that was similar to their natural habitat.
Cobras, black mambas, pythons, and rattlesnakes were located inside. In
Maryland, only non-venomous snakes are legal.
It took crews several hours to remove the snakes from the man’s house.
The non-venomous snakes were to be taken to Virginia by a licensed handler; the venomous snakes were being taken to North Carolina by another licensed handler.
Vehicles had to be warmed for half-hour, in order to carry the reptiles safely to the locations.
