Deputies in Greenville, South Carolina, stated that on Sunday, close to 3 p.m., they went to a residence to serve a search warrant. This was in regards to someone who hadn’t appeared in court as they were ordered to do.
When deputies arrived to the residence, a man, who wasn’t named on the warrant, ran from the home into Lake Cunningham.
Officials say that the man swam for a little while until he went underwater. He never came back up, they say.
Although deputies went into the water to attempt to rescue him, they were unable to do so.
Eventually, a dive team located the man, who has now been identified as Chuck Gilbert Shelton, 38.
On Monday, the coroner’s office noted that Shelton died from a freshwater drowning.
His death was said to be an accident.
Should’ve just gone to court.
It wasn’t the person they were looking for that drowned
