A driver in northwest Indiana caused a toddler and a woman to die when he allegedly had a firearm, fled from police, and crashed.
On Friday, around 11:30 a.m., officers in Gary tried to stop a man who was speeding, driving a 2010 Audi A5.
The driver then lost control of the car and ran in the back of a semi-trailer in the right lane of an interstate. He then crossed over several lanes and hit a median wall.
Subsequent to hitting the wall, the driver crossed back over in front of the semi and was hit by the big truck on the side. The Audi ended up underneath the bumper of the semi.
When the Audi first hit the trailer, a woman inside of the Audi was ejected and died. She was a 20-year-old from Matteson, Illinois. A one-year-old child was in a car seat inside of the Audi. That child suffered fatal wounds, as well.
21-year-old Eric White, the driver, was taken to a hospital with head wounds.
While investigating, officers found that he was in another police chase in November.
White was released from the medical facility and is being held in jail.
