Shawn Coates, 52, has been charged after being accused of slamming his truck into a fire station in Minneapolis.

Authorities say firefighters inside the facility were protecting a woman that Coates was following.

On Thursday evening, the woman had gone to Fire Station 8 in the Whittier community. Fire crews had instructed the woman to wait inside as they tried to get Coates to leave the premises.

Coates then navigated into the parking lot of the station, attempting to strike one of the officers with his vehicle. He then drove his pickup truck into the garage doors.

In order to stop his reckless behavior, firefighters used an axe and other devices to disable his vehicle.

Coates exited the truck and “squared up” to a fire captain as another firefighter put him on the floor. It took six to seven of them to control Coates until police arrived.

He was then transported to the Hennepin County Jail. On Friday, Coates was charged with two counts of fourth-degree assault and one count each of threats of violence and third-degree criminal property damage in the occurrence.
