Man Charged in Fatal Shooting of Woman Mistaken for Deer on Trail

A young man from South Carolina is facing charges for fatally shooting a woman and wounding her husband during their nighttime walk.

Twenty-year-old Kristofer Kelle McDonald reportedly mistook the sounds of rustling leaves and cracking branches for a deer and fired his weapon.

Lori Wind, 54, was struck and killed at the scene, while her husband was transported to the hospital for treatment.

McDonald has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature, negligent use of a firearm resulting in death, negligent use of a firearm resulting in serious bodily injury, and night hunting.

He was taken into custody at the L.C. Knight Detention Center and later released after posting a $400,000 bond on Thursday.
