On Tuesday, 43-year-old Michael Goodman was denied bond in relation to the murder of a 9-year-old girl, Serbia Medina.
Although he had been shot in the face during the occurrence that happened this weekend, Goodman was in court on Tuesday in Chicago.
He wore a black T-shirt and green shorts, and he was still bruised on the left side of the face.
On Saturday night in the 3500 block of North Long Avenue, at close to 9:40 p.m., Serabi Medina was fatally shot.
Officials say that Medina’s father had been talking to friends inside of a vehicle, and she had been at an ice cream truck with her scooter when gunfire rang out.
Medina’s father instructed her to go back hime when Goodman came out of his apartment with a gun in his hand. He then walked up to the group and shot Medina in the head while she was on the sidewalk, close to her residence, police say.
As the father saw the assailant, he attempted to stop him. As they struggled, bystanders say that was shot in the face with his own firearm.
Even though the girl was transported to a medical facility, she passed away
Goodman, her neighbor and a computer programmer with a FOID card, has now been charged with first-degree murder.
A motive for the shooting is unknown although witnesses say Goodman was upset about the group being too loud.
An investigation is continuing.
