On Friday, 23 year-old, Amar Shabazz of Maryland, was charged with mail fraud and obstruction of justice after he allegedly sold over 600 COVID-19 vaccination cards.
Reports say that in June, the man bought the cards on Facebook marketplace. He then sold them on his accounts for $60, $70, and $75 each.
Authorities say that after that, he mailed the cards to the purchasers through the mail.
“COVID19 vaccination cards who want one. $75 a pop,” he stated in a post. A little while later, another one of his post read, “I sell proof of vaccination cards.”
He also told one would-be buyer, “Made $300 today. I’m all sold out. Just bought 500 more cards. 60×500 is $30k. I’m gonna be rich!” he wrote.
Customs and Border Patrol agents intercepted his package in August. He proceeded to buy more vaccination cards from the same website. Officials raided his residence in October.
If found guilty, Shabazz, who has already served time for possession of illicit child images, coud receive 20 years in prison for each offense.
The investigation is on-going.
