A Florida man was just walking down the street when he thought that he saw a dog.
However, when he stopped to observe the animal, it turned out to be an alligator that then attacked him.
Reports state that the unidentified man, in his 40s, was taking a stroll, close to 12:30 a.m., near the Water Springs Motel, in Sarasota County. The man had said that he observed something moving out of the corner of his eye. He also saw a shadow, next to bushes, that looked similar to a dog leash.
As the man got closer, he then saw that the movement was a seven-foot alligator that quickly moved in his direction. It then bit the man on his right leg.
The man was able to get away although part of his leg muscle and tissue was left in the alligator’s mouth.
Luckily, a deputy was close to the scene and heard the man wailing. He jumped onto the back of the alligator, folded it up, and “taped him in a ball.” The alligator was held by the officer until a trapper arrived on scene to take it off of the property.
The man was transported to a medical facility with non-life threatening wounds.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating the occurrence.
