A man was apprehended by authorities in relation to an incident of kidnapping a transgender woman at a motel in Miami, Florida.
Authorities say that the kidnapping occurred on Jan. 14 at the Saturn Motel.
The victim, who is said to be a transgender woman messaged a friend for assistance just prior to 5:45 p.m. that day.
The friend was then able to FaceTime the victim and saw that she needed help. The witness could also see 34-year-old Joshua Debarge Lucas on the screen as he demanded $200. If she didn’t give him the money, he said that she would be hurt.
As the call took place, Lucas confessed to being angry when he discovered that the victim was transgender. He said that he had been under the influence as their encounter happened. Lucas also stated that he was a Black Hebrew Israelite which he said looked down upon homosexual activity.
Someone who was with Lucas was then seen on the screen and told the witness to get them the money.
The witness, who could see a gun, recorded the call and phoned police.
Officers arrived to the motel and found the victim. However, Lucas and his accomplice were gone.
Lucas was later apprehended at his residence in Opa-locka on Friday. He has been charged with kidnapping with a weapon and threats of extortion with prejudice.
Lucas is being held at the Metro West Detention Center without bond.
Authorities still don’t know the name of the alleged accomplice.
