On Sunday, a church service came to a stop as a man took out a firearm on the pastor and is said to have tried to shoot him during his sermon.

Authorities in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, stated that they later discovered a deceased male’s body in the suspect’s residence.

The incident occurred at Jesus’ Dwelling Place Church in North Braddock, Pennsylvania, a little after 1 p.m.

The suspect, who has been named as Bernard Junior Polite, 26, is alleged to have gone inside of the church and tried to shoot Pastor Glenn Germany. This was as the pastor was giving his sermon on a live stream.

The accused’s gun didn’t discharge and a person in the congregation and the pastor were able to detain and disarm the suspect prior to anyone being hurt, authorities say.

“I’m thankful to God that I’m still here because he definitely pulled the trigger,” Germany reported. He added that before the occurrence, Germany smiled at him.

“I started to begin to preach, and all of a sudden, from my left-hand side, I saw him. He moved from the back to the front of the church, and he sat up in the front corner of the church and smiled at me. All of a sudden, I just saw a gun pointed right at me. At that point, all I could try to do is run for cover,” he stated.

The pastor then honored the man who took action to detain Polite. “He could have lost his life in that struggle, but he sacrificed himself for everyone, and he’s the hero.”

The suspect was subdued at the church until state troopers had arrived to the location and apprehended him.

Authorities say that charges have been pressed as an investigation is continuing.
